Climate change & Jessica Vega Pederson

Can I brag a little bit about our friend Jessica Vega Pederson?

My name is Bruce Nilles, and I manage the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign. I’ve rarely seen a public official champion such transformational policy as Oregon’s historic Clean Electricity and Coal Transition plan. The law will move Oregon entirely off of coal by 2030 – and double the state’s commitment to renewable energy to 50% by 2040.

Following the UN Paris climate accord, this is the single most significant legislative action our nation has taken on climate change, and Rep. Vega Pederson led the fight.

That's why it was so obvious that I should nominate Rep. Vega Pederson for the National Sierra Club’s Distinguished Achievement Award -- and why she won it.

Jessica is a true environmental champion, taking bold steps and passing ambitious policy. Across this country, I know that leaders in other states and communities are taking a look at this legislation as a model. We've started something big!

Meet Jessica

I am a mother, a business professional, a progressive Democrat, a proud resident of East Portland, and the first Latina elected to the Oregon House of Representatives.

As Multnomah County Commissioner I’ve fought to make sure every member of our community has what they need to succeed. I want to make Multnomah County an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. I'm ready to get to work and I hope you'll join us!
